Research object: somatosexual development of boys residing in rural areas. Objective: to determine certain sexual maturation characteristics of boys who live in rural areas. Methods: clinical, genealogical, questionnaires, radiological, radioimmunological, immunoenzymatic, and statistical. Some peculiarities of somatosexual development have been defined in boys-residents of rural areas. Earlier signs of puberty (10-11 yrs) have been established in country boys as compared with age-matched boys from the city of Kharkiv, and definitive stages of the genitals maturity have been registered in the majority of boys aged 16-17. The study has proved the relationship between the degree of sexual development, anthropometric parameters, and body weight in adolescents. Optimal sexual development parameters for each age group have been substantiated, and percentile normograms for the circumference of testicles, length of penis as well as the index of masculinization for villagers have been worked out, too. The results of the present study also demonstrate the incidence of pubertal disorders in boys. It has been determined that the most common form of disorders is delayed sexual development (DSD), its clinical and hormonal characteristics given. The work has proved the absence of any significant differences in the incidence of complicated cases of carrying the proband, related to the place of residence, besides the more frequent threat of abortion in town-dwellers. A more frequent abuse of alcohol in families and insufficient consumption of meat products and various juices by patients with DSD have been registered in the villagers. Fields of application: endocrinology, pediatrics, family medicine, urology, and surgery.
