Studying of Nikolai Medtner's piano cycles in the context of the Russian piano tradition of the late nineteenth - early twentieth century is proposed in the research. The textual basis of N. Medtner's piano cycles, as expression of a performing presumption of his piano poetics, the value of the cycle and cyclicity in the formation of the musical-performing text in the piano composer's works are revealed. Highlights topical aspects of musical textual criticism, values category of the text in musicology and musical performing, the leading parties of musical texts forming in piano poetics of Russian composers of the end of the nineteenth - the first half twentieth century are covered.
