The main principles of M. Grushevskij's literary works are determined in the thesis, as well as the main components of his literary conception formed due to application of appropriate for the using material methods of study such as historical-genetic, comparative-historical, typological, biographical, systemic are ascertained. On the basis of correlation of M. Grushevskij's "History of Ukrainian literature" and analogous narrative works its fundamental character is justified as well as the urgency of stated by scientist's ideas of historism, integrity, continuity and augmentability of literary process, international connections as the facilities of every national literature development for literary thought of those times.
