The dissertation is dedicated to the studying of social and political history of Byzantium of XI century through the prism of "Chronography" - historical work of the outstanding Byzantine historian and scholar Michael Psellus. The study focuses on the interpretation of the political history of Byzantium (end of the X - XI century) by Michael Psellus. The dissertation defines the socio-political significance of the major categories, which were used by the byzantine writer, who was trying to answer on the important questions, that preoccupied him as the historian and public person. The comparative analysis of the reflection of the social struggle in the Empire during the reign of Basil II at the "Chronography" of Michael Psellus and at the "Review of history" of John Skylitzes was made.
