Essay

The thesis aims to increase quality and effectiveness of treatment of patients suffering from contracture accompanied phlegmons of the maxillofacial area in order to reduce postoperative rehabilitation period. Clinical analysis and treatment have been conducted on 80 patients suffering from the contracture accompanied phlegmons divided into two groups of 40 patients each. The first group underwent the standard treatment. The second group, together with the regular treatment, was administered 10 mL decongestant solution of L-lysine aescinat prior to the surgery and afterwards during subsequent 5 days. The morphologic research revealed that the main pathogenic mechanism of development of the inflammatory contracture is the edema of the intermuscular and intramuscular structures, which was further confirmed by the results of the electromyographic investigation of the masticatory muscles of the affected area. Dynamics of the treatment demonstrated positive role of L-lysine aescinat. An average range of mouth opening in the experimental group in 5-6 days following the surgery was 41,35±0,5 mm, thus approaching the norm. The advantage of applying L-lysine aescinat to the treatment of contracture accompanied phlegmons of the maxillofacial area has been effectively proved.
