Essay

This dissertation presents a complex study of political program as a specific pragmatic type of a text within political discourse. The research suggests linguistic and stylistic analysis for revealing gender speech representation peculiarities in "female" and "male" political programs of Atlantic linguistic and cultural tradition on hypo- and hypertextual levels. The study of language units functioning within morphological, lexical and semantic, syntactic, thematic and compositional contexts has been chosen to analyze gender speech representation in the text of political program. It is claimed that a number of lexical, grammatical, syntactical means, on the one hand, have specific gender character and reflect politicians' speech behaviour due to gender stereotypes based on traditional distribution of gender roles and, on the other - the violation of some of them. It has been proved that the strategies of rivalry and authoritarianism are typical of male politicians' speech. "Female" political programs are realized via the strategy of cooperation. The integral and differential features of the texts under analysis are exposed through the comparative analysis. Text-typological features of political program revealed due to integral features characterize the political program text as an informal, thematic and compositional integrity of argumentative, sense and language units which are oriented on to author's intentions to achieve necessary impact on the addressee. Key words: gender, political program, verbal behavior, gender stereotype, speech strategy.
