Essay

Thesis is the first complex research in studying of amber accumulation conditions of the north-western part of the Ukrainian Shield. Granulometric and mineralogical composition of rocks containing parent amber placer are considered in details. The regularities of material composition variation in cut and lateral are determined. Oligocene age of the productive stratum in rudaceous amber is confirmed. The facial features of amber-bearing stratums accumulation within the current distribution of productive sediments are determined. The structural and morphological features of Pre-Cenozoic surface of the territory are examined. It was ascertained that Palaeogene seas inherited the eroded surface of the Upper Cretaceous with developed karst. The morphological structure of the bottom of Oligocene sedimentary basin and presence of numerous islands is found. Paleographic situation of the amber accumulation epoch in the north-western part of the Ukrainian Shield is reconstructed. Prognosis factors and search features are developed for detection of potential amber-bearing areas.
