Essay

In dissertation there is presented a comprehensive historical analysis of Orthodox Church role in Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth century. The subjects of historiographical research were scientific and academic works of pre-soviet and soviet time, works of Russian and Ukrainian scientists, works of modern national and Russian historians. It was discovered the existence of leading historical Orthodox school, that had their own conceptual approaches to understanding problems connected to major tendencies of Russian Orthodox church development in Ukraine; nature and scale of its part in social, political, cultural, educational, charity processes in the second half of the nineteenth century. A lot of attention is paid to scientific summaries about national directions of religious, ritual, political and cultural Orthodox clergy activities of those days.
