Essay

Object of the study iodine deficiency’s disturbances in Ukraine’s population. Aim of the study: to study the status of iodine in children and adults from different climatic and geographic areas of Transcarpathian according WHO criteria, and provide a scientific basis for creation of approaches against iodine deficiency. Methods of the investigation and equipment: epidemiological, clinical, biochemical, instrumental, statistical methods; ultrasonic apparatus Terason 2000 (USA), spectrophotometer C115M, weigh “Seca gmbh co. kg.” Theoretical and practical results: the information about the status of iodine deficiency in different climatic and geographic areas of Transcarpathian was obtained after analyze of the results of cluster randomized epidemiological study. The characteristics of diffuse goiter prevalence and iodine deficiency in different landscape areas of Transcarpathian were shown. The effects of iodine deficiency on physical and intellectual status of Transcarpathian’s children were demonstrated. Both, medico-social and ecological conditions of residence that have been included the consumption of micronutrients by children from different climatic and geographic areas of Transcarpathian were studied. The necessity of procedures for control and prevent of iodine deficiency states was founded. Novelty: it was established that without of mass and group prevention among the pediatric population from Transcarpathian the iodine deficiency of mild, moderate or severe stages were pointed. It was established that insufficient of iodine supply of children from studied region was associated with decreasing of both, physical and intellectual status. For the first time was shown that low iodine consummation has been accompanied by insufficient uptake of zinc to organism. Degree of introduction: the main results of study have been used in Uzhgorod National University in the educational process in the departments of biochemistry, pharmacology and endocrinology. The regional health program for prevention of iodine deficiency disorders was proposed. Field of application: endocrinology, pediatrics.
