The research is dedicated to investigation of molecular-genetic and biological properties of soybean mosaic potyvirus and alfalfa mosaic alfamovirus identified on soybean plants from breeding plots under environmental conditions of Forest-steppe zone of Ukraine. This work also presents the results of virus resistance cultivars finding.Particular symptoms caused by natural infection of alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) on soybean in Ukraine were revealed and identified for the first time. The ability of seed transmission of AMV in soybean was evaluated. It was shown, that soybean plants infected with AMV reliably reduced their seed productivity in 4,5 folds. Five SMV isolates have been collected and biologically purified from breeding plots in Vinnytsia region of Ukraine. It has been found that all these isolates showed the same reaction patterns when infecting 11 differential soybean cultivars. Phylogenetic analyses for sequences of the coat protein-coding region and P1-coding region revealed strong genetic relationships between representative Ukrainian isolate (UA1Gr) and SMV-VA2 isolate which together sorted in one clade with G2 strain. Taking into account the investigation of pathogenic properties and the results of phylogenetic analyses we have concluded that SMV, isolated in Ukraine for the first time, belonged to the G2 strain group that is widespread in North America.
