The thesis deals with the sociolingual and functional characteristics of euphemisms and dysphemisms in the parliamentary communication of Germany and Sweden. The analysis was carried out on the material of the texts that represent the parliamentary communication of Germany and Sweden such as speeches of parliamentarians, parliamentary speeches of ministers, interruptions, questions of parliamentarians to ministers and answers to these questions. The main characteristics of the parliamentary communication like publicity and rituality as well as its structure are revealed. Political correctness is described as one of the factors that cause using euphemisms. The evaluative, semantic, stylistic and socio-pragmatic characteristics of euphemisms and dysphemisms are defined. Euphemisms and dysphemisms are classified and their linguistic structure on morphological, lexical and syntactic levels is determined. The euphemistic and dysphemistic communicative strategies and tactics in the parliamentary communication of Germany and Sweden are defined.
