Essay

The thesis considers fitness, structure and quality of hunting lands for grey hare, the species spatial and temporal distribution, its vital peculiarities study, population dynamics analysis and predators influence on its quantitative indices. For the first time the structure of Zhytomyr hunting lands, grey hare spatial and temporal peculiarities and stational distribution, population dynamics, vital activity are examined, main limiting environmental factors influencing this species density, predators' one in particular, are established, approaches to seasonal rhythms study are specified. Fox density in hunting lands should be decreased to 0,5 - 1,0 sp.*1000 hectares-1 diminishing its population in forest and hunting enterprises in the north of Zhytomyr woodland by 1,6 - 3 times, in the south - by 1,8 - 3,5 times, in hunting lands of forest and steppe zone by 11 - 22 times and in the enterprises of Ukrainian society of hunters and fishermen - by 3 -6 times. In woodland feed fields with winter wheat, rye, triticale, cultivated crops (beet, cabbage, etc.) are expedient as well as fruit and berries plants, arboreal shrubs. In the forest and steppe zone it is important to improve protective measures planting crops for feeding up on the unfit for agricultural crops plots. Also, it is necessary to intensify control on this species catch and to decree a moratorium in case the density is less than minimal.
