Essay

The thesis is the first comprehensive analysis of the creative writing device of literary reconstruction in Ukrainian literary studies, the device, that was most fully displayed in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This research shows the theoretical definition of "literary reconstruction" as a creative device that includes hermeneutical, dialogic, intertextual and poststructuralistic features, and consists in reproduction of the text, which hypothetically may belong to the old literatures. The process of reproduction is a reconstruction - on the base of ancient texts a new text or its elements are created, considered to be hypothetically possible in the ancient (reconstructed) era. In the process of reconstruction the scientific apparatus is widely used, but at the same time there are no claims for veracity, and the hypothetical and even fantastic character of the reconstituted is emphasized (the device is quite different from the literary hoaxes and historic styling).
