Thesis deals with the problem of narcissism interpretation  in the European literature of late XIX up to early XX century. An attempt of generalized narcissism interpretation in its connection with literary and psychological problems is performed for the first time in the Ukrainian literary criticism. This notion is interpreted not only as one of the driving art elements.
