Hural O. Linguаl Realization of the Concept CHARACTER in the novels by Martin Amis

The thesis provides a study of linguistic mechanisms of realization of the concept CHARACTER in the text of postmodern novels by Martin Amis. The concept CHARACTER is approached as a readerly mental model, which emerges in the process of interaction of reader's cognitive base and fictional text. This study sets out to identify the structure of the concept CHARACTER as well as the nature of its relationship with the context of the fictional text by using image schemas CONTAINER, PART-WHOLE, LINK, UP-DOWN, PATH. The concept CHARACTER is seen as a theoretical construct objectified in the text by a vast number of character occurrences. They are being analyzed from the perspective of schema theory. The structure of some individual schemas, composing the concept CHARACTER, are analyzed with the help of cognitive metaphor theory.
