Moroz M. Lithology of the Upper Jurassic deposits of the Outher zone of the Carpathian Foredeep

Object of investigation: Upper Jurassic sedimentary strata of the Outer zone of the Carpathian Foredeep; subject of studies: Oxfordian, Kimmeridgian and Tithonian deposits of the Outer zone of the Carpathian Foredeep, which were penetrated by deep boreholes; methods of investigation: petrographical, mineralogical, paleontological, SEM investigation, IR?spectroscopy, chemical analysis, geologic mapping; practical value: dimensional development of patch reefs ? potential reservoirs of hydrocarbons in the south-eastern part of the Outher zone of the Carpathin Foredeep were predicted; scientific novelty: lithological classifications of carbonate and terrigenous-carbonate rocks were made, lithologic-chemical classification of the Upper Jurassic carbonate rocks was composed and problems of their genesis were explained; by results of investigation of rocks by IR?spectroscopy, chemical analysis and SEM-method mineral composition of carbonate rocks was established; on the base of the fractography method in Oxfordian cryptocrystalline limestones with aggregate-smoothed-block chop surface type, calcite pseudomorphs by threads of blue-green algaes were discovered, their presence in the rocks is the evidence of biochemogenic sedimentation on tideland shallows of shelf in high salinity waters; the classification of Upper Jurassic carbonate sediments was proposed; the model of spread of the Tithonian sediments in the Carpathian segment of Meso-Tethys was built; spheres of use: lithology of sedimentary strata.
