Essay

This thesis presents a comprehensive cognitive-pragmatic study of the speech act of positive expressive (PE) that manifests the speaker's positive emotions. The study demonstrates complexity of positive emotions as a fenomenon and a concept, specifies lingual and pragmatic realization of positive emotions in PE that functions in positively-emotive discourse (PED), and exposes the polyvector nature of PE. The polyvector nature of PE is represented by its three semiotic aspects: its form, meaning, and function. The formal-semantic vector comprises forms and meanings of PE taken in isolation, without its relations with other speech acts within PED. The functional vector comprises structural and conceptual relations between PE and other speech acts that function within PED. Each of the vectors exhibits variability - representation by multiple modifications that characterize different aspects of PE as a discourse, pragmatic phenomenon. Key words: speech act of positive expressive, positively-emotive discourse, autosemantic / synsemantic positive expressive, pragmatic types and pragmasemantic variants of positive expressive, discourse modifications of positive expressive.
