Essay

Object of study: keratoconus. Purpose: To increase the efficacy of surgical treatment of keratoconus by optimizing algorithm of early diagnosis, determination of treatment indications and prognosis based on the study of morphometric features, optical and strength properties of the cornea in patients with keratoconus. Methods: general ophthalmic, computer keratotopography with optical pahimetry, optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment, tonometry by Goldmann with determination of corneal hysteresis, elastotonometry by Filatov-Kalf, ultrasound A-and B-scan of the eye. Advanced scientific data about the features of anatomical changes in the cornea of patients with keratoconus. Specified scientific knowledge of the primary pathological process involving posterior cornea. Scientific knowledge of the morphometric changes, optical and strength properties of the cornea with the progression of keratoconus was updated and the expediency of simultaneous use of new classifications to determine the class of keratoconus in severity, that reflected in the appendices to classification was approved. A method for evaluating the efficacy of corneal crosslinking in patients with keratoconus, wherein that the strength of the cornea is measured before and after photochemical cross-linking of corneal collagen fibrils in the presence of riboflavin. The results of the study are implemented in "VIZUS" the modern ophthalmology clinic (Zaporozhye), and the Filatov Institute (Odessa), in the City Hospital № 3 (Zaporozhye), "Vzglyad" ophthalmic clinic (Dnepropetrovsk).
