The dissertation presents results of a study of methods of forming accounting estimates in the financial statements and practical recommendations on their improvement. The economic entity estimates is revealed through the use of professional judgment concerning the technique of calculations or choice of possible numerical values or characteristics (properties) of elements of financial statements. The factors of influence on the reliability of accounting values and their changes over time are identified. Grouping of estimates by the number of features are developed. The application of accounting estimates in the selection of the criteria of differentiation, in the methods of calculation and the basis of the valuation are proved on the basis of management's intentions or from the perspective of an impartial party. Financial statements depend on the industry of the enterprise, which stipulate the specific criteria of the elements of financial statements, for evaluating in particular, provisions for doubtful debts, bad debts definition. Criteria for recognition of the right to use electricity on the selected voltage classes are defined as a contract intangible asset if enough information for accurate assessment is provided. Important analytical aspects are disclosed in choosing estimates of fixed assets, their practical value is demonstrated in studying the results of revaluation. The calculation of depreciation of fixed assets after revaluation is proposed, methodical approach to accounting of the cost determinants of fixed assets to increase analyticity accounting procedures for deferred tax is worked out and revaluation in the additional capital following revaluation is offered.
