Essay

The thesis is devoted to the principles of diagnostic and treatment of mental disorders in HIV-infected patients. The results of mental status examination of patients, depending on the route of HIV-infection, are presented. The results of pathopsychological observation are displayed. Prevalence of psychopathological syndromes, depending on the route of HIV-infection, is described. Common patterns of mental disorders in all groups of HIV-infected patients were asthenic-neurotic and paranoid syndromes. It was found out, that patients with HIV were characterized by lower level of quality of life, there was a trend toward worsening of the scores on scales that made up the mental component summary, rather than physical component summary. It was established, that stigma was an independent predictor of depressive disorders controlling for sex, age, and stage of infection. Comprehensive clinical and psychodiagnostical investigation of HIV-infected patients made it possible to prove the system of differentiated treatment, comprising psychopharmatherapy and rational psychoatherapy, family therapy and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy.
