Essay

The evolution of views of a prima vista playing in the history of the piano performance, embracing the period from the XVI-th through the XXI-st centuries has been traced in the present thesis. The prerequisites for occurrence of professional need for play at sight and causes of this skill "atrophy" in the XX-th - XXI-st centuries have been determined. A prima vista playing as an element of a pianist's performing art receives diverse interpretation in both practical and theoretical guides and in experimental and psychological studies by K.Bin, G.A.Sloboda, T.Wolf et al. Analyzing psychophysiological mechanisms of playing at sight, we can note essential divergences of sequence of process in the pianists and, let's say, violinists or vocalists. It is stated that quite an individual nature is typical for a prima vista playing, which is pointed out by such processes of cognitive sphere as perception, imagination, thinking, anticipation, memory as well as experience and knowledge of an individual.
