This thesis focuses on a contrastive study of ethnolingual coding means of English and Ukrainian criminal law semantemes. The research outlines the theoretical and methodological basis for the analysis of the semantemes manifestation in legal naive and scientific pictures of the world. Specifics of diachronic variation in the contents of CRIME and PUNISHMENT concepts have been revealed. Universal and ethnospecific features of paroemia representation of these phenomena in the contrasted languages have been described. The conceptual structures of criminal law terminological systems of the English and Ukrainian languages have been reflected. The frames of the basic concepts have been distinguished.
