Vyshnevs'ka G. Peculiarities of clinics and treatment of periodontal diseases in tobacco smokers (experimental and clinical study)

Prevalence, structure and clinical peculiarities of periodontal diseases in smokers were determined by clinical and sociological research. It was found that smokers have worse oral hygiene, less pronounced gingiva inflammation more teeth involved in gingival recession that indicates predominance of periodontal destruction over inflammation. Experimentally was proved that metabolic disorders arise in all tissues of smoke-influenced rats (gingiva, cheek, blood, liver). Significant increase in activity of elastase, malonic aldehyde content and decrese in activity of сatalase was observed. The most severe tissue damage was observed in smoke-influenced rats with periodontitis model. Changes were especially pronounced in lipid peroxidation - antioxidant system. Thus the potentiation of two damaging factors occurs. Utilizing ligature-induced periodontitis model in rats dose-related effects of ozone therapy on periodontal tissues were studied. It was found that ozone has pronounced anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and perioprotective effect. The complex of treatment-and-prophylactic actions at smokers with GP which in addition to traditional therapy includes an ozono therapy of periodontal pockets and Bio-Guya probiotics is reasonable, developed and approved. That allows to improve results of treatment, to reduce terms of treatment of GP, to prolong the period of stabilization of pathology in periodontal.
