Barcova O. The technological bases for creating the information resources of a universal electronic library

The technological approach for the creation of an electronic library as an information system which functions in a network environment has been analyzed. The two-level model of an electronic library with digital items separated from their metadata has been proposed. This model is the basis for carrying out technological maintenance of an electronic library as it allows the use of automated library information data processing technologies to format the electronic library's information resources. It also allows the application of federated searches for on-line servicing. The model of a federated electronic library with architecture based on Peer-to-Peer networks has been put forward and proved. The specifics of such a model is the convergence of the two most important library functions -collection and information provision. The administration and technological bases for the library stock of digital documents has been formulated. The foundations of the complex technology needed to form the information resources of an electronic library is developed. The complex technology combines automation of library data processing, adapted aggregation technology of on-line documents and the network technology required for scientific electronic resources.
