The thesis is devoted to the research of the novel-confession in Russian literature in the context of the literary-critical creation problem. It studies the place of the novel-confession within the confession-novel related varieties of the novel, such as autobiography and memoir. Novel-confession is a literary form, within the limits and with the help of which aesthetic surmounting "bad infinity" self-incrimination as ethical dominant in biography is typical of this genre. Confession in literary work ontologically can't be finished because of the impossibility of loneliness to the process and an ongoing focus on the future ability to confess the hero's words. Novel-confession is a non-finished phenomenon because the general dynamics of the confessionable word of the author have lack of an addressee of the author's words in a work. Genre feature of the novel-confession, the dialogue "author-hero", theme, motives are researched upon the literary works by I. Schmelyov and F. Dostoevsky.
