Essay

It has been shown that expression of endogenous hBD-2 in А549 cells results in significant suppression of cell proliferation. It has been demonstrated that rec-hBD-2 results in significant inhibition of cell proliferation via blockage of cell cycle in G1/S checkpoint, dephosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein pRB and decreased expression of cyclin D1, and these events are accompanied by nuclear translocation of exogenous recombinant hBD-2. It has been demonstrated that hBD-2 mRNA expression depends on histological type of lung tumor. In lung adenocarcinoma the defensin expression correlated with differentiation grade of tumors. In lung tumors of different histologic types there has been found cytoplasmic and nuclear hBD-2 localization.
