Essay

Dissertation is dedicated to coverage and analysis of Volodymyr Hoshovsky's ethnomusicological heritage, whose scientific activities fell on the second half of the 20th century. The state and the degree of scientific investigation of the issue in this country's and foreign ethnomusicology were analyzed. The factors that had influenced V. Hoshovsky's world outlook were elucidated, as well as his creative development and his evolution from ethnography through musical aesthetics and musical country study to musical folklore study. V. Hoshovsky's folkloristic efforts are presented as a system phenomenon. The coverage of V. Hoshovsky's field expeditions in Ukraine and abroad is given, because the scientist attributed great importance to expeditionary activities, regarding them as a starting point for scientific comprehension of folklore and its range of problems. A special significance is attached to the methods of folk music recording, which affects the quality of the collected material, level of its analysis and value of the conclusions.
