The thesis contains the main results of the research of the theoretical and methodological bases of state regulation of the depressed territories development. The essence of state regulation of the depressed territories development is specified, its necessity is proved, the factors of state regulation are determined and its principles are scientifically substantiated. Considerable attention is given to the substantiation of directions of transformation of the existing approaches to state regulation of the socio-economic development at the regional level, taking into account the provisions of the institutional theory.
