Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the definition of United States and Soviet Union role in the Arab-Israeli conflict. The aim of the thesis is to describe the impact of the global rivalry between the USA and the USSR on the Arab-Israeli wars and Middle East peace process. The author describes relationship between the USA and the USSR during Arab-Israeli wars and analyses their efforts to resolve Arab-Israeli conflict. Special attention is paid to conceptual approach to the solution of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The USA and the USSR supported the creation of State of Israel. By the early 1950s the Cold War has intruded into the Arab-Israeli conflict. Soviet policy was clearly shifting toward the Arabs. The Soviet Union supplied Arabs with arms and offered political support. The Arab-Israeli conflict was entangled in the global rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. Israel became a major American strategic ally in the Middle East. During October War (1973) the Soviets threated to send troops in the Middle East unilaterally. The American warned the Soviets against unilateral intervention and gave the warning credibility by placing some US military units on increased alert.
