The theoretical framework is developed and scientific and methodological approaches to ensure the financial security of pension funds are improved in this thesis. The interpretation of the concept "financial security of private pension fund" is clarified. The key threats to the financial security of pension funds are identified and the most significant risks to which funds to be exposed during their functioning are highlighted. The structural and functional model of the mechanism of ensuring the financial security of private pension funds is designed. The role of government regulation in the financial security of private pension funds is justified. Stages of development of the mechanism of ensuring the financial security of private pension funds are determined. The scientific and methodical approach to diagnosing the financial security of a private pension fund is improved. The scientific and methodological principles of private pension funds' risk management, implementation of the approaches to the formation of the investment portfolios, differentiation of supervision over the activities of private pension funds on the basis of the behavioral scoring model application and calculating the index of attention of the financial regulator are developed.
