Essay

The thesis deals with the linguo-rhetoric study of the addressee orientation in political commentaries in the German BILD and Frankfurter Allgemeine newspapers. The findings of the study reveal that the inventive aspect of the addressee orientation in the BILD and FAZ commentaries is reflected in their thematic and value dominants, semantic macrostructures and communication strategies. In connection with the dispositional aspect of the addressee orientation in the BILD and FAZ commentaries the functional, structural, semantic and pragmatic characteristics of their headlines have been defined, as well as the structural types of argumentation and peculiarities of visual rhetoric. It has been found that the elocutionary aspect of the addressee orientation in the BILD and FAZ commentaries is manifested through the varying elocutionary strength of the metaphors used, phatic orientation of elocutionary means in the BILD commentaries and their persuasive orientation in the FAZ commentaries. It has been shown that persuasive speech is typical of the addressee orientation in the FAZ commentaries while the addressee orientation in the BILD commentaries is characterized by a combination of emotionally persuasive and phatic types of communication.
