Korogoda T. Strategies and Tactics of Communicative Failure Repair in the English Conversational Discourse.

This dissertation offers a cognitive pragmatic approach to the study of discourse strategies and tactics aimed at repairing communicative failures. A prognostic model of communication has been elaborated to elucidate the interaction between interiorized cognitive processes and the ones exteriorized in the speech for different stages of the discursive dynamics. A definition of "communicative failure" has been offered and its causes in the discourse have been revealed. Strategies and tactics of communicative failure repair have been analyzed with regard to the cognitive algorithm of their unfolding. Communicative failures as well as discourse strategies and tactics of their repair are viewed as cognitive formations predetermined by functional peculiarities of the architecture of the human mind.
