Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the influence of 3d-type transition metals on physiological and biochemical properties of sulfur-reducing Desulfuromonas acetoxidans Ya-2006 bacterium and construction of microbial fuel cell on it's basis. It was shown that the effect of nickel chloride, cobalt chloride, manganese chloride, ferrous iron sulfate, ferric iron chloride and copper chloride on growth, cell structure, catalase, superoxide dismutase activity and reduced glutathione synthesis by D. acetoxidans Ya-2006 depends not only on metal salt concentration in the growth medium, but also on duration of their influence. The modified method of superoxide dismutase activity measurement was applied in this study for the first time. It allows to register less values of SOD activity of obligate anaerobic microorganisms in comparison with modern methods of this enzyme activity measurement. Dependence between electric current generation by D. acetoxidans Ya-2006 and Ferric iron concentration in the growth medium in the new model of microbial fuel cell was determined for the first time.
