Chuyko O. Experimental and clinical basis of local metabolic disorder correction in the diabetic retinopathy prevention

The object of study: diabetic retinopathy (DR). Objective: to increase the effectiveness of prevention of diabetic retinopathy by experimental and clinical studies of local correction of metabolic disorders and the use of vitamin B6. Methods: ophthalmologic, biochemical, clinical, psychological, statistical. Supplemented by scientific knowledge about the state of lysosomal structures, violation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and the activity of antioxidant enzyme system of the retina of animals with streptozotocin diabetes in long-term experiment. For the first time in 2 and a six-month experiment established the stabilizing effect of all forms of vitamin B6 in the lysosomal structures, processes, lipid peroxidation and enzymatic antioxidant system of the retina of animals with streptozotocin diabetes. First established that the inclusion of traditional preventive treatment of vitamin B6 leads to a statistically significant reduction in the blood of patients with DR oxyaldehyde and lipid peroxidation products. Supplemented by scientific knowledge about mental peculiarities in patients with initial forms of DR. Developed and put into practice a new method for preventing the progression of DR and the scale of the initial scoring of clinical and psychopathological symptoms in patients with diabetes and initial forms of DR. The results of the work are adopted in 7 leading ophthalmic hospitals of Ukraine, the main provisions of the work are included in lecture's program and practical work of ophthalmology chairs in 4 Medical Universities of Ukraine.
