Essay

The thesis focuses on the study of the concept of nature (of a man) as the idea-esthetic grounds of author-artistic image of the world in the novels of English sentimentalism. The research highlights the idea-philosophical grounds of the spiritual life of the Age of Enlightenment and touches upon the functioning of sentimental novel in the context of the ideas of the Enlightenment, but that can not be reduced to a unique "influence" of the philosophy of the Age of Reason. The peculiarity of psychologism of S. Richardson's novel "Pamela" has been analyzed. The author's position (Christian moralist) and the composition of images in the artistic system of O. Goldsmith's novel "The Vicar of Wakefield" have been considered in the research. The description of "ingenuous calls of nature" in "A sentimental journey" by L. Stern and the writer's ironic interpretation of a sensual view on a man have been investigated.
