This dissertation presents a study of the concept of Motherhood and the means by which it is expressed in the English-language discourse, carried out using the system-functional and the semantic-cognitive approaches. The research has been conducted within the sphere of lingual conceptology. The data obtained show that the linguocultural concept of Motherhood, an element of the English conceptual picture of the world, is viewed as a complex mental construct, the notional basis of which is formed by the ideographic duplex motherhood / maternity, the meanings of which are profiled within the domain of the state of being a mother.
