Essay

In this thesis causes and consequences of progressive collapse of multi-storey buildings were analyzed. Cases of beginning fires after earthquake were considered. Problems of judgment of realistic behavior of multi-storey buildings under fire conditions were outlined out. Attempt of judging the possibility of progressive collapse of multi-storey buildings due to fire after earthquake was made. The multi-storey reinforced-concrete buildings' analysis of resistance to progressive collapse due to fire after seismic action was considered. Nominal fire scenarios based on standard fire were assumed. The tests of fire resistance of wall panel after seismic load were performed. Fire endurance to comply with integrity and insulation criterion was determined subsequent to the results of test. Fire endurance to comply with load bearing criterion was determined subsequent to the results of analysis and test. Offers to structural provisions to avoid the progressive collapse of multi-storey buildings were made subsequent to the results of analysis. Key words: progressive collapse, fire following earthquake, fire scenario, fire resistance, seismic resistance, local failure.
