Essay

Object - the thermoemission cathode units of electric plasma torches. The purpose - improving the methods of designing of cathode units for electric plasma torches to enhance gas dynamic protection. Methods - mathematical modeling, analytical and numerical methods. Practical results - the proposed ways of improving the design of cathode units; developed computer simulation program for cathode region processes, multicomponent flows, parametric models of plasma torches, recommendations for the design of plasma torches, suggested perspective design of combined cathode unit. Newness - improved design method of cathode units in integrated CAD/CAE - systems, proposed the use of SAS SST turbulence model; developed methods for parameters of the near-electrode zones calculating, determined that the reason of the contraction of the arc is the oxidation of the cathode material due to influence of oxygen-containing gases. Industry sector - aircraft manufacturing.
