Focuses on establishing means for the verbalization of the CHESS concept in the modem English world-view. The study defines the CHESS concept in the typology of lingual-cognitive and linguo-cultural concepts as an archetypical mental formation presenting the archetypical opposition and being a culturalogical transformation in the form of a game. It singles out the notional, figurative and axiological components of the CHESS concept in the English linguistic culture, and establishes the relationship between the lingual characteristics of the CHESS concept and its discoursive implementation in the form of metaphorical images.
