Essay

The present dissertation thesis presents a systematic study of genre and style paradigm of violin miniatures by composers of Western Ukraine in chronological limits of the late nineteenth - 80's of the twentieth century. A comprehensive approach to the research subject, focusing on a wide range of individual author's genre and stylistic models has been suggested. The continuum of violin miniatures created by Lviv composers during more than a half-century period is divided into several evolutionary stages. Within the first period (the first half of the twentieth century) the attention is focused on the cultural, aesthetic and stylistic prerequisites for the genre formation in creative work of the older generation composers of Lviv School - S. Lyudkevych and V. Barvinskyy. Art features and representatives of two contrasting areas of early development of the genre, lyrical cantilena and concert virtuoso are identified.
