Masklyuk A. Improving methods for assessing and maintaining productive qualities of pigs of Ukrainian Steppe White breed

The object of research: the formation and evaluation of the productive qualities of pigs of Ukrainian Steppe White breed breeding farm of State Enterprise an Experimental Farm "Ascaniya-Nova." The aim of research: to study the complex evaluation methods of productive qualities of pigs and the formation of the genealogical structure of Ukrainian Steppe White breed by the purposeful selection and recruitment, assessment of genotypes of boars and sows, aimed rearing, the study of high longevity of animals, the level of impact and effectiveness of the use of foreign selection of genotypes to improve fattening and meat quality. Methods of research: experimental, zoo technical, morphological, statistical, biometric, economic – with the use of mathematical computing. Theoretical and practical results: the theoretical level – disclosed the condition and prospects of selection and breeding processes that are involved to improve the Ukrainian Steppe White breed pigs, the formation of its genealogical structure of animals, their reproduction, feeding and meat quality. In practice – improved assessment of sows in the context of related groups. Using the best combinations of lines provides: improving reproductive qualities of sows, fattening pig’s reduction, reduction of cost of feed per unit of live weight gain. Novelty: first theoretically grounded and practically implemented a comprehensive approach to the use of existing gene pool of pigs in Ukraine local Ukrainian Steppe White breed of purebred breeding programs. Expanded theoretical understanding of the mechanism of breeding process, the constancy of the breed and the formation of a genealogical structure, creating lines by "foreign type" Landrace breed, revealed the most effective lines of combinatory, improved assessment of productivity of sows in family groups. First studied in detail the correlations between measures of productive qualities of pigs Ukrainian Steppe White breed , defined dynamics and heritability of traits in breeding generations, justified the use of additional selection criteria, identified the potential of high longevity of animals. The degree of implementation: dissertation research materials incorporated into reproducers Agricultural Productive Cooperative "Lydia" Kherson region. Application areas – animal husbandry, in particular pig-breeding.
