In dissertation on the basis of working of the specialized literary sources the development in economic science of categories "informative system" and "information technology" is analysed. The improved system of estimation of informative potential of machine-building enterprises is proposed, and strategic directions of its development are determined. The functionally-element structure of management information system of machine-building enterprise is proposed, taking into account principles of the use of the information systems and technologies, indexes of information potential, methods of application and functional decouplig of business processes and information streams of enterprise, that determine a task and logical structure of the information system and creates principles of effective application of information management in the process of acceptance of administrative decisions.
