The thesis aims at finding out specific peculiarities of SECLUSION textual embodiment in British and American fiction of the second half of the 20th century. The research reveals the invariant verbal representation of the concept in the world view of native speakers of English and offers its invariant and variant semantic models. The thesis establishes the means of the concept’s manifestation on the conceptual level (conceptual schemes), presents the prototypical metaphorical model of its image space, and determines the archetypes underlying SECLUSION. The field structure of the analyzed concept in British and American fiction of the second half of the 20th century has been reconstructed.
