Essay

The thesis is devoted to theoretical investigation of optical and magneto-optical effects in complex magnetic and optically nonlinear media. It has been shown that at light reflection on the boundary between vacuum and bigyrotropic medium the orientation of the magnetization vector demonstrates strong influence on the behavior of the pseudo-Brewster angles. It has been shown that the variation of the incident light intensity allows controlling of the Kerr rotation and ellipsometric parameters at light reflection from an optically nonlinear dielectric film on a bigyrotropic magneto-electric slab. It was shown that the Faraday and Kerr effects in an electro-optic flm on a magneto-optic slab are very sensitive to the orientation of the dc external feld, especially at the incidence angles near the pseudo-Brewster angles. It was shown that the transmittivity spectra, Faraday rotation angles and the Goose-Haenchen shifts of the light transmitted through a 1D magnetic photonic crystal with electro-optic and magneto-optic defect layers can be controlled by the external electric field.
