Erlikhman A. Means of Realization of Implicitness in Drama (Case Study of the 20th Century English Plays)

This research focuses on revealing the means of realization of implicitness in the texts of the 20th century English drama. It is claimed that the variety of the means of implicitness realization depends on the type of communication (author - reader). It suggests the classification of the means of implicitness realization into four groups: lexico-semantic (connotative and associative components of the meaning, inner form of the word, lexical polysemy, contexual synonyms, antonyms, euphemisms), syntactic (parenthetical components), textual (stage directions, cues, markers of silence, key words) and over-textual (indirect addressing). It is maintained that there are different types of implicit meaning in outer communication of English drama. It is proved that implicitness is an inherent feature of the drama text due to its genre characteristics.
