Essay

The study results of cytokines balance, cytokines genes single nucleotide polymorphism, clinical, epidemiological features of HIV infection, social and behavioral characteristics of PLHIV in terms of North-Eastern region of Ukraine are presented in the dissertation. It was found that Sumy region is relatively prosperous in the number of registered HIV-infected among other regions of Ukraine, but there are prerequisites for the development of the epidemic in the general population. The differences in the clinical course of the disease depending on the route of transmission were identified. It was confirmed that high-risk behavior remains the main characteristic among PLHIV in the North-Eastern region of Ukraine. Unfavorable modulation between high IL-10 and TNF-alfa serum levels and HIV infection clinical course was proved. The distribution of IL-4 (-590C/T), IL-10 (-592C/A), TNF-alfa (-308G/A) genes allelic variants in HIV-infected and healthy Ukrainians was studied at the first time. The important role of immunogenetic changes as predictors of HIV infection clinical course was proved, which in turn determines the application of these parameters for timely diagnosis of HIV-associated pathological conditions and prevention of the disease progression.
