Essay

The thesis is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of discourse strategies and tactics of creating and overcoming communicative violations in interpersonal dealings based on English and American belles-lettres of the 18th-21st centuries within the framework of the communicative and cognitive paradigm. The conflictogenic and non-conflictogenic nature of the interaction of communicative maxims in English dialogic discourse have been distinguished. Paraverbal means, whose inappropriate usage violates the main implicit rules of the cooperative dialogue, have been considered. A comparative analysis of various alternative principles and conventions of the communicative principles has been made, with their integrated interpretation provided. The principal features of an ideal interlocutor who can identify the conflict initiation and aptly avoid it in the English dialogue have been specified. The inner and outer factors that cause the communicative failure in English dialogic discourse have been indicated. It has been shown that there is no ideal dialogic discourse without any violation of the communicative principles.
