Essay

The dissertation presents a complex study of structural, semantic, communicative and pragmatical aspects of political interview as a product of electoral American media political discourse. It has been found that electoral American media political discourse is a symbiosis of the media discourse and the electoral discourse; it is regarded as a communicative phenomenon in the form of a corpus of media texts that belong to the sphere of political communication with the appropriate extralinguistic background and act as a basic means of conveying current information to the society. Speech behavior of a politician is exposed to the discourse-analysis based on the following parameters: an index of verbosity, leadership, thematic novelty, evaluation / rating, reformulation with specification, consent, repetitions, antonymic reformulation and communicative cooperation. Special attention is paid to the investigation of a politician's speech as an anthropological center of the text of a political interview, in particular, its grammatical, lexico-semantic and stylistic features. Political interview is regarded as a text of the persuasive type within modern electoral American discourse; accordingly, the research focuses on identification of an arsenal of the communicative speech strategies aimed at the impact on mass audience. The linguistic status of the object-addressee, i.e. the electorate, and that of the subject-addressee, i.e. the interviewer, have been defined.
