Nanosized structures ( nanopores, nanoclusters) formed on the surface of layered cadmium iodide crystals. Nanostructures growth mechanism during crystal aging in air has been determined. It includes the nanopore formation stage, inception of clusters in nanopores and aggregation of nanoclusters. It is established, that the nanostructurers сontain cadmium hydroxide and cadmium oxide. In СdI2-Cdi with more than 0,1 mol. % nanoclusters and nanoribbons are formed. It was found that in CdI2 crystals activated by BiI3 nano- and micropores, microtubes, impurity BiI3 microphases and bimolecular nanoclusters are formed.The model explaining the formation process is proposed
