Essay

The thesis is devoted to the regularitіеs of coalition studies development and to the role of the game-theoretic modeling in it. The author tracks the interactions between game-theoretical and empirical methodologies in two forms: internal interactions (nomination of alternative theories, empirical testing, tracking regularitіеs) and external (expansion issues). Consequently, author constructs an evolutionary model of the coalition research, where both raised problems and attempts to solve them in frame of game-theoretical and empirical methodologies are represented. For the first time in Ukrainian political science, the spatial modeling technique of the party-ideological composition of the coalition government is examined and the development of game-theoretic models for this phenomenon is analyzed. The theoretical concepts of coalition government termination research, coalition payoff allocation, intra-party factors of making and breaking of governments research, minority government formation research are covered in details in the thesis and the modern trends of coalition studies in English academic discourse are highlighted as well.
